Advantages of Buying Vintage Furniture
Vintage-style furniture has continued to be a popular choice over the years. There are countless reasons for this; however, before you decide to furnish your home with vintage pieces simply because the vintage style has been trending, you should understand what makes vintage furniture such a sought-after choice. With that in mind, the following is a brief guide explaining the advantages of buying vintage instead of modern furniture.
Benefits of Bringing Home Vintage Furniture
When hunting for furniture, it’s essential that you have an idea of what you’re looking for. If you’re thinking about looking for vintage pieces, then knowing what the benefits of choosing the vintage style are can be incredibly useful. The following are ten benefits of furnishing your home with beautiful vintage pieces:
- Timeless: There’s something uniquely timeless about vintage furniture that makes it stand out from the rest. This aesthetic quality allows it to fit in with most decor styles, giving you room to play around with your interior design.
- Quality: Unlike a lot of modern furniture (much of which is built out of cheaper materials and produced on an assembly line), vintage pieces are known for their durability and quality of craftsmanship. Because these pieces have lasted over the years, you can be sure that you’re investing in something that will last.
- Elegant Designs: Vintage furniture is known for its classic and elegant designs, making it a great way to give your home a touch of timeless sophistication. From carved wood pieces to intricate metalwork, these pieces come with unique details that will add character and charm to any room.
- Limited Edition Pieces: With vintage furniture, you’re often getting something that no one else has. Vintage pieces are one-of-a-kind and have been around for decades, making them truly unique. Not only does this make it easier to create focal points in any room using vintage pieces, but your space won’t look like anyone else’s and will be a much more accurate representation of your personal style.
- Environmental Concerns Being Met: If you’re looking for a more eco-friendly option, vintage furniture is the way to go. Modern furniture tends to be cheaper — however, there is a reason for this. Modern furniture is manufactured quickly and using cheaper materials, meaning it won’t last as long. When you buy modern furniture, it’s less likely to last, which means it will end up in the landfill much faster than vintage pieces.
- Vintage Furniture is Kind to Planet: By investing in vintage furniture, you’re buying pieces that have already been made and have been around for years. This means that they don’t require additional resources to be created, thus reducing the environmental impact of manufacturing new furniture.
- Vintage Pieces Empower Personal Expression: Vintage furniture pieces allow you to express yourself in a unique and meaningful way. Whether it’s a single statement piece or an entire collection of vintage pieces, these items will give your home a unique look and feel that no one else will have.
- It’s About the Story & Relationship: When you buy a piece of modern furniture, you’re just buying a piece of furniture. When you buy vintage pieces, however, you’re not only getting the actual item but also the story behind it as well. Each vintage piece has its own unique history and character that you can appreciate when adding them to your home.
- Vintage Offer Calm Feel: Vintage furniture pieces can offer a more calming atmosphere to your home. Modern furniture designs tend to be sleek and minimalistic, which can make a space feel cold and sterile. Vintage pieces, on the other hand, provide a sense of warmth and comfort that modern pieces simply cannot replicate.
- It Is Good for the Wallet: You can find great deals on vintage furniture, especially if you know where to look. However, even if you spend more initially on a piece of vintage furniture, you’ll end up saving money in the long run because of how much longer a vintage piece is likely to last, which means you don’t have to spend money on repairs or replacements.

Hi, I will be downsizing and have some nice antique furniture including an 18th c. butler’s desk and a solid mohogony dining room set including a beautiful Hepplewhite side board. Do you buy items such as this or do you know who does. Would you be interested in pictures?
Hello Marilyn, thank you for your comment. We do not purchase pieces directly from customers – our procurement team prefers their channels for sourcing inventory.
Our suggestion is to contact furniture stores local to you and see if they are interested, perhaps auction houses as well.
You can also list your pieces on online marketplaces to try and sell them privately.
All the best!
